This early morning the participants of the festival “To Save and Preserve” became witnesses of the historical event - 2.5 thousand individuals of young sturgeon were released into Irtysh and around one hundred starlets. Today the official start of the priority regional project “Save the Siberian sturgeon” was given.
An hour before release into the river, were weighing and careful recalculation, everything is by the rules. Fish spawns have grown, they are about a year. That is why, according to experts, survival in natural conditions is higher - 60 percent. At this stage of life, it can already hide from predators.
Vitaly Baranov, head of the Nizhne-Ob branch of the FSBI “Glavrybvod”: “It will go to Irtysh and develop there, feed and then migrate to Ob, then go back tomIrtysh”.
These tiny ones will grow to a mature state only in 10–15 years. After that, the fish will start to spawn.
Pavel Pavlov, General Director of the Ugra Fish Plant: “This action is timed to the program of “To Save and Preserve”, which was initiated by our district and the experience of which, judging by the communication with colleagues from other regions, other subjects of the country want to base on”.
The special interest of the participants of the ecological TV festival is caused by sterlet fry. The most people have gathered around the pool with them. Participants make photos and film on camera. Perhaps, for their future films.
Elena Etkina, participant of the XXIII International Ecological Festival, Moscow: “We got up so early to witness such a large-scale event. This is saving lives of mammals, saving lives of fish, and I can only express my admiration for the organizers”.
And someone says that such events are held in their regions as well.
Anastasia Andreiko, participant of the XXIII International Ecological Festival, Astrakhan: “In fact, today, more than ever, I felt at home at the festival, because in Astrakhan this is also a traditional matter. Several times a year we release young sturgeon. Of course, we have Russian sturgeon, you have Siberian one, but the main thing is that the goal is common - to preserve our rich, unique nature, to preserve the population, which is now becoming very rare. ”
After the release of fry for the youngest participants of TV festival went on a tour of the fish farm. They were shown how fish are grown and how caviar is incubated.
