The ecology of the Arctic is in our hands - the theme of the next creative meeting at the TV festival. Evgeny Rozhkovsky, chairman of the Green Arctic public organization, shared how to get rid of the legacy of the so-called Cold War.
In the fifties, the Arctic has become a shield in case of air attack. Air defense bases and airfields were built on the islands of the Arctic Ocean. In the early nineties, the military left the Arctic, leaving behind, according to some estimates, up to four million tons of industrial and construction waste.
The locomotive of a public organization is a volunteer movement that includes hundreds of people. These are residents of different countries, not indifferent to the problems of that part of the Earth, which is called the "factory" of world weather. Last year, in two shifts, volunteers collected 2,600 metal barrels, 800 of them with fuel and lubricants. They cleared all the buildings on the territory of the polar station from iron piles. The public organization “Green Arctic” is five years old. The goal that volunteers have set themselves is to form a non-consuming, ecological lifestyle among the world's population. Everyone should start with himself: to limit or abandon all purchases, such as plastic bottles.
Yevgeny Rozhkovsky, Chairman of the Interregional Public Eco-Sociological Organization “Green Arctic”, Salekhard: “The mission we are going with is to make the world cleaner, make ourselves cleaner through the projects that we implement. Show people, humanity, how we should not do. Without any rallies, sharp cries, without any force processes. Through the creation. We just go and do. We understand: there is a problem and it is necessary to solve it, and if you don’t start with yourself, you won’t do anything”.
